A Look Into Chanel's A/W 2020 Handbag Collection
AirPod cases are set to become the most-wanted luxury leather goods.
Since Virginie Viard's first solo show at Chanel, her collections have included fresh takes on Chanel signatures like tweed and suiting which stay true to both Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld's aesthetics. Focusing on reinventing vintage styles from the brand, new updates have included revamping the mini Vanity case and a renewed focus on the extra-large tote bags. Fans have also been elated to see that in this new era for Chanel, femininity has been put on equal footing with practicality, with many of Viard's designs featuring multiple pockets and added straps for functionality.

In an homage to Karl Lagerfeld, Viard’s F/W 2020 collection infused Lagerfeld’s signature rock-romanticism aesthetic into some of Chanel’s most timeless pieces - including its quilted handbags. Some of the standout styles were the crossbody wallet which featured oversized pearls as the strap.

Given the success of its popular 19 series, Chanel released a new take on the bucket bag. With a cool, slouchy body and drawstring closure for easy and effortless practicality it also comes finished with a vintage-looking chain-link strap and the gold-toned interlocking logo - we’re sold.

New to the collection, Chanel also debuted its new miniature zip-lock top bag. Similar in style to its vanity cases, the zip on this design is only on two rather than three sides of the bag - giving it a more diamond-like shape. They come in 5 colours, including a shocking-pink that was carried by Kaia Gerber on the runway.

Still present in the collection was a series of waist bags - which is no surprise given the continuing popularity of bumbags. We love Chanel’s dainty take, offering an elegant way to partake in the hands-free trend. At $9,900HK they’re also a steal compared to some of Chanel’s other designs.

And finally, we could not write this article without mentioning Chanel’s chicest take on the AirPod case. Inspired by its iconic handbags, you can choose from classic quilted styles or even a miniature tweed design - all complete with the legendary “CC” logo in gold of course.
