Sheer Tint Foundation

Korean women favour a much lighter base, which is why the holy grail of CC/BB creams and cushion compacts was founded in South Korea. Known for their ‘glass skin’, Korean women ensure that their complexions are hydrated to the max with multiple serums and essences before going in with a lighter base, creating a glowy, sheen-light finish. Here’s each step explained:

1. After your skincare routine, make sure to go in with a hydrating primer that will help to illuminate your skincare and recreate a dewy finish.

2. Next up, dip a small amount of liquid foundation/BB/CC cream with a beauty blender and gently pat the product into your skin, creating a flawless first base.

3. Finish by touching up your first layer with a cushion foundation that has more sheen and go over the high points of your face, forehead and nose for a brightening effect.

Big Eyes

Korean actresses like Han Xin are known for their big, doll-like eyes that feature long lashes and natural-looking eyeshadow and flicked eyeliner. Easy to do at home, here’s how.

1. Start by curling your eyelashes, which will help to fan them out for a more awake-looking appearance. Easy to do, simply look at yourself in the mirror and with the lash curler open, place it right on top...it should fit right in the socket of the eye.

2. Next coat your lashes with a coat of mascara, making sure to first wipe off any excess product so you don’t get a gloopy look. Comb from the root up to get rid of the excess mascara.

3. Prepare two bamboo skewers, and heat the front end of one of the bamboo skewers with a lighter until the skewers turn black.

4. Put a bamboo stick that has not been scalded between the eyelids and the eyelashes, and place the scalded bamboo stick on the eyelashes to repeatedly roll, so that the eyelashes become curled and lasting.

It was big news recently, when Seo Ok, the makeup artist for Girls' Generation revealed some of her favourite products that she uses in her pro kit. Read her tips below.

Cushion Foundation

When recommending cushion foundations, Seo Ok says that she judges a formula by how long the product wears, its coverage and most importantly the hydration it provides. We personally recommend Dior, Giorgio Armani, MAC and Givenchy for ticking all of 3 of these criterias.

Eyeshadow

Seo Ok was one of the first celebrity makeup artists who introduced local Korean brands like Innisfree, Missha, Luna and TonyMoly to the wider beauty community, and we couldn’t be happier that she did. A self-confessed eyeshadow lover, she recommends all the above brands for both matte and sequin eyeshadows that can be used throughout the day. Brands like Bobbie Brown and Chanel's iconic four shadow palettes are another favourite for achieving a natural taupe-browns and pink ‘Korean girl’ eyeshadow look.
