Meet The New Brand Jennie Is Obsessed With (Hint, It’s Not Chanel)
Blackpink is not just smashing charts, they’re ruling the fashion game too. Designer muses, regulars on the front row of fashion shows - the band have become modern style icons and what they wear - the whole world seems to follow.
If there’s a member who always looks great in anything and everything she wears, it’s got to be BLACKPINK’s Jennie. And whether or not we openly admit it, we all have our fashion favourites and for bandmate Jennie that is Chanel. Whether she’s performing, shooting or enjoying some downtime, Jennie nearly always opt for pieces by the revered French fashion house.
However, Chanel isn’t the only cult Parisian brand she’s a fan of. The 24-year-old fashion-lover has most recently obsessed with Azzedine Alaïa.
Jennie’s newfound love for the designer was most recently evidenced in a series of images sge shared on her Instagram, where she’s pictured wearing a pale blue dress and a matching tote bag - both Alaïa.
"I don't make big shows. The conference is for buyers, not the media."
Just like Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel, Azzedine Alaïa is one of the industry’s most celebrated designers - few brands are as iconic. Born in Tunisia, Azzedine Alaïa presented his first namesake collection in 1980 and quickly won legions of fans in the process.
The King Of Cling
Even though Alaïa’s shows were notoriously late (sometimes a month and a half after Paris fashion week), designers and fans would still be eagerly waiting to see what he would present.
Known in the 80s as the ‘King of cling’ Alaia became known for his form-fitting dresses. Name any supermodel, and it’s sure-bet they have worn one of his body-con dresses or sculptured leatherwork pieces. High profile fans include the likes of Naomi Campbell, Grace Jones and Victoria Beckham.
Sadly, the fashion world lost one of its greatest in 2017, when Alaïa passed away, only aged 77 from a heart attack. However, with contemporary starlets like Jennie reclaiming his signature aesethetic, Alaia’s impact on fashion and groundbreaking vison will continue to live on and be discovered by new audiences.
