Princess Diana’s Most Iconic Outfits Are Recreated For The Crown

The Crown’s fourth season has, as predicted, become Netflix’s most-streamed TV show since its release earlier this month. And despite already having won legions of fans for its royal drama plotlines, this fourth installment of the series was the most anticipated yet due to its focus on the Diana years and the introduction of Margaret Thatcher.

Of course, many of us remember the real Princess Diana as a fashion icon, however Emma Corrin’s version of Diana takes us on the princess’ style journey from a teen in woolen jumpers to the star we all became to know. The series recreates some of Diana’s most memorable style moments including her opulent wedding gown, 80s puffed-sleeve ball dresses and lots and lots of shoulder pads.

It’s no surprise that Diana’s wedding gown was the centrepiece of the show, with it being revealed that it took 14 weeks to make and and The Crown even employed the same lace company that worked on Diana's real gown. Almost as large as Diana’s real dress, the costume version was made up of a whopping 95 meters of fabric, 100 meters of lace and included a train that measures 30 meters on its own.

The new season of The Crown also chronicles Diana and Prince Charles’ newlywed relationship, including their tour of Australia. In this episode, Diana wears a total of 17 costumes which reflects her fashion and PR education.

Our introduction to the Charles and Diana relationship begins with their engagement announcement, in which both wear royal blue and white outfits. Following that scene, we see the pair at their wedding dress rehearsal, where the Crown’s wardrobe department also replicated Diana’s casual shirtdress.

Emma Corrin’s portrayal of Diana has already been reviewed as one of the best yet. Despite being a relative newcomer to the acting scene, having just made her debut in 2017, she’s already made her mark off screen being a regular attendee and favourite at Miu Miu shows - we can’t wait to see what she does next.
