Emily In Paris Fashion Fails
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you would have heard of Emily In Paris, the newest Netflix offering from Sex and the City creator Darren Star. Starring Lily Collins, Emily in Paris centres on a forward-thinking millennial who moves to Paris for a job and thus, the series follows her adventures and education in Parisian protocol. The show had high expectations, especially when it came to the wardrobe department, which was headed up by none other than wardrobe icon Patricia Field.
We’ve got to admit, however, that as fun as Emily’s outfits are - full of vintage Chanel and colourful coats and prints, well, they leave a lot to be desired.
In fact, it’s worth noting that Emily’s outfits often stick out like a sore thumb amongst her chic Parisian costars, which was some say done on purpose to highlight her outsider perspective.
With that all in mind, below we dissect some of Emily’s worst outfit fails that we’re pretty sure would have Carrie shaking in her Louboutins.
Ok, we’re just going to say it, this tourist look of Emily’s verges on the side of cringe. Each item worn by itself would have been fine. Snakeskin skirt? Cute. Printed Eiffel Tower shirt? Kind of cute. Worn together? Not cute. We’re also not sure how Emily’s co-workers would have felt about her tourist shirt, we can’t imagine ourselves popping into the office with a T-shirt emblazoned with the Victoria Harbour on it. You see our point.
(2) Clashing Prints
Emily has never seemed to have heard of the saying “less is more”. Her looks are often too complicated, with not 1, but 3 clashing prints, textures and accessories. And trust us, we love layering in an outfit, especially in autumn, but next time Emily should instead choose just one standout item and keep the rest of her look simple.
(3) Colour and Prints
It is no secret that Emily loves to play with colour in her wardrobe. However instead of choosing one fluorescent or bright colour like a normal person, she often goes for 3-6 - which a word for the wise, is never a good look.
Instead, we’d advice that Emily should instead just choose just one standout hue and stick with it to create a cool, monotone look.
Best 3 Outfit：
However not all of Emily’s looks were painful, here are our 3 favourites:
These 3 looks were easily the standout for us. We cannot get over the Aubrey Hepburn-esque black dress, heels and slicked-back hair in the last image - proving than less, really is more when it comes to style.
