The Story behind the Iconic LADY DIOR handbag

Find out why LADY DIOR is so loved!

Among the many classic bags, Lady Dior is definitely one of the top three. Ever since Princess Diana's public appearance with it, the handbag became a Dior icon. Designed by Gianfranco Ferre in 1994, the bag has been a favorite among celebrities and ladies, as well as the younger generation. Today, Lady Dior comes in various colorways, textures, and even shapes, and fashionable shoulder straps that can be personalized. It is always evolving but never going out of style.

There are 3 reasons why Lady Dior has become a popular and enduring IT Bag, and you will definitely become a fan once you discover them.

1. Princess Diana

In 1995, the then First Lady of France, Bernadette Chirac, presented Princess Diana a brand-new Dior bag – then called the Chouchou for her visit to the Paul Cézanne art exhibition in Paris. The elegant accessory became Princess Diana’s must-haves, and she clutched the bag on many international trips and fashion events. In the following year, Dior named the bag Lady Dior with Princess Diana's consent, establishing its status.

2. The unique Cannage pattern

The unique and intricate Cannage pattern on Lady Dior actually originated from the French 18th-century furniture craftsmanship. The founder Christian Dior took the woven rattan pattern on the back of a chair of Napoleon III and topstitched with the iconic Cannage motif, which later became the emblematic pattern of the maison Christian Dior.

3. Exquisite Handmade Craftmanship

From choosing the leather, quilting the Cannage pattern, making the handles and body to assembling each component, each Lady Dior bag takes artisans more than 72 hours to make. Lady Dior bags have 144 components, each of which requires high levels of workmanship and patience.
