Is Roger Vivier Now More Popular Than Manolo Blahnik?
Why Roger Vivier’s Buckle Shoes Are More Popular Than Ever
Asides from the multiple layers of knitwear, leggings and coats, winter brings the need for a good pair of shoes. If there is one investment you’re going to make in your wardrobe, it’s sensible footwear and the cold-weather season is the perfect excuse to invest in a new pair. When it comes to brands, there’s one designer we always look to for stylish footwear and that’s Roger Vivier. Made famous for ladylike buckle shoe, which was worn by Catherine Deneuve in Belle de Jour, the brand has since won legions of fans including Jackie Kennedy and the whole cast of Sex and The City.
In recent years the brand has become better known for its cult military-style boots which are modelled after traditional combat styles and topped with the designer's signature silver buckle. Versatile enough to dress up or down, you can wear them with cropped jeans at the weekend and a mini skirt and blazer come date night.
Another cult style is the brand’s glossy patent loafers which come with chunky soles and of course, the brand’s oversized buckle. A self-proclaimed perfectionist, it’s been reported that Roger Vivier was known to review his sketches hundreds of times before giving final approval to new designs.
Though the brand’s shoes aren’t the cheapest on the market, each is expertly made to the highest of standards.
Viver has also extended its collection to include ballet pumps and even Birkenstock-style sandals. Titled the Slidy Viv sandal, the design features two bejewelled buckles and have been spotted on everyone from Brie Larson to Elle Fanning, and Kate Bosworth.
If you’re all about the comfort you also can miss Viver’s high-fashion take on sneakers which comes with chunky soles and rectangular buckles.
With a long portfolio of timeless and chic shoes, we couldn’t think of a better winter investment. The only question now is - which pair do you choose?
