Aloe Vera: The skincare saviour that even Kate Middleton is a fan off
Your summer best friend.
Much like everyone, it seems like I am constantly on a never ending quest to find the perfect moisturiser. It must be deeply hydrating, but not greasy or sticky, pairs well under make-up and not cost the earth without sacrificing on quality - is that really too much to ask?
I’ve searched high and low for a moisturizer that checked these boxes and let me tell you it was not an easy feat, a lot of creams were either too expensive, too rich, too oily and well you get the gist. But that was all until we came across aloe.
This underrated ingredient has been used for centuries in many different cultures. Loved for its healing properties, it’s been touted as a miracle ingredient for everything from treating acne to reducing wrinkles, healing sunburn and improving overall skin health. We could keep on reeling off a long list of its go-to properties, but that probably wouldn’t be too productive, so instead below we’ve listed the top 3 reasons why you need this bottle of green gooey gel in your skincare routine. Keep scrolling to find out below.
（１）To Heal Acne
Hot, humid weather can often wreak havoc on our skin, most noticeably increasing sebum production that can clog up your pores and produce excess oil. Perfect for acne-prone skin types, aloe is great for treating breakouts thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties and salicylic acid that help to reduce inflammation and stop the growth of bacteria. More so though, it’s aloe’s amazing moisturizing properties that make it most beneficial for acne, soothing any open wounds without clogging up pores.
（２）To Treat Sunburn
Aloe is one of the most well-known home remedies for sunburn and with good reason. Aloe vera extract is packed with both vitamin C and E which help to replenish, nourish, and hydrate the skin, making it the perfect remedy for soothing both fresh sunburns and skin that is peeling. We recommend not going in with the stuff straight from the plant though as this can have an adverse effect, often irritating the skin further. Instead, you can purchase commercially prepared pure aloe vera gel from many different brands, just make sure to look out for ones without alcohol to minimize stinging.
Did you know, aloe vera extract is actually 99.5% water, which explains why it’s so hydrating on the skin. Naturally rich in vitamins, minerals, and proteins, it has the ability to attract and lock in moisturise to the skin, which means it’s capable of delivering high impact, long-lasting moisture into the pores. Apply it as the final step in your evening skincare routine (after essences and serums) and get ready to wake up with smooth, soft, even-toned and dare we say it, dewy-looking skin.
