Jennifer Lawrence Stars In Dior’s New Pre-fall 2020 Campaign
Elegant.
If you ask us Dior can do no wrong, and the brand has it been in safe hands ever since Maria Grazia Chiuri took the helm in 2016 and the French fashion house’s latest campaign does not disappoint. Enlisting A-list star and brand ambassador Jennifer Lawrence, the actress takes centre stage in a series of spine-tingling campaign images.
Shot by the iconic fashion photographer Brigitte Niedermair, the photographs have a decidedly different feel to them than previous campaigns, with the captured images perfectly accompanying the minimalistic and vintage feel of Chiuri’s designs.
Most of all, we love that the minimal styling and plain grey backdrop lets the Pre-Fall 2020 collection do all the talking and the products, well, let’s just say they’re speaking to us. To dive into it, we’ve deconstructed our favourite shots below.
The Dark Colour Palette
Evoking Dior’s post-WWII elegance, the campaign focuses on dark hues and crisp, monochromatic silhouettes, reflecting Chiuri’s concept of a timeless wardrobe, as well as founder Christian Dior’s architectural approach to clothes.
The predominantly black colour palette is also something new for the brand, whose collections usually have an ultra-feminine air. This femininity is not lost however, with iconic ladylike pieces, like its fit and flare skirts and tailored outerwear, all still present within the collection.
Clean Lines
When looking at the campaign it is clear that Chiuri wanted the sculptural looks to celebrate the clean lines and the bold simplicity of the minimalist movement. When asked about design inspiration, Chiuri expressed her philosophy in two simple sentences: "I hope my skirt is ‘constructed’ on a beautiful body contour, and a personal style is formed from the line shape." In a world where Gucci and Palace prints reign supreme, the collection serves as a palette cleanser in today’s ever bold and logo-centric times.
Evoking Dior’s timeless elegance, from the clean lines, sculptural cuts and not to mention the unveiling of two ever-desirable bags from the brand, the Lady Dior Ultra-Matte and Dior Bobby bags, we can’t help but fall in love with this campaign. Call us old fashioned, but we think a little old-school fashion nostalgia is exactly what’s needed in these COVID times, and for that we’re grateful.
